Kling 2.1 AI Video Generator

Kling 2.1 is the May 2025 Kling release that is still the cheapest Kling model per second: 5- or 10-second silent clips from a single photo, in Standard 720p or Pro 1080p. It is a legacy model, so on PictureToVideo it runs in beta — from 4 credits per second.

If the model is down, you decide

Legacy models can be interrupted or withdrawn with little notice. Here is exactly what the generator does when it is available, slow or unavailable — and the one thing it never does.

  • Never swappedWe never render on another model and call it 2.1. Switching models is always your click.
  • Never charged for a refusalIf the model can’t take the job, no credits are kept: the generator stops first or refunds them at once.
  • Always labelledEvery result card shows its tier and resolution, and Classic always means 2.1.
  • This is a simulation of the generator’s behaviour, not a live health check.

042.1 Master

What about Kling 2.1 Master?

What Master is

Master is the premium tier of the 2.1 generation: 1080p output, both text to video and image to video, and the most careful motion of that generation. It was priced well above Standard and Pro.

Why we don’t sell it

At its API price — about $0.16 per second — Master would cost around 23 credits per second here, more than Kling 3.0 at 1080p (13), which is newer, renders 3–15 seconds and can add native audio. Selling it would mean charging more for less.

If you came for Master

Pick Kling 3.0 at 1080p for the same resolution on a newer model, or Kling 2.6 at 8 credits per second if you want 1080p text to video for less. Both are live and out of beta.

Standard or Pro?

Standard (720p, 4 credits per second) is the cheapest Kling video model we offer and fine for tests. Pro costs 7 credits per second for 1080p. At that resolution, Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro (6) and Kling 2.6 (8) are newer, add text to video and are out of beta, so they are usually worth the difference.

05Still worth it?

When version 2.1 still makes sense

Good fit

Bulk photo tests

Checking dozens of stills for motion potential? At 20 credits per 5-second clip, 2.1 Standard is the cheapest way to triage them.

Good fit

Matching an old project

Extending a series you started on 2.1 in 2025? Staying on the same model keeps the look consistent.

Good fit

Gentle, simple motion

Drifting clouds, a slow blink, rippling water — subtle moves on a single subject suit the older model.

Skip it

Deadlines

It is in beta and can be unavailable. If the clip must ship today, use Turbo or 3.0.

Skip it

Text-only ideas

Standard and Pro need a start image. For prompt-only shots, use 2.5 Turbo at 1080p or Kling 2.6.

Skip it

Sound or long takes

No audio and a 10-second ceiling. Kling 3.0 gives you up to 15 seconds with optional native sound.

06Cost per second

What Kling 2.1 costs here

Credits are charged per generated second. A refused job costs nothing, and failed renders are refunded automatically.

07Rules

Upload photos with care

  • Use photos you took or have the rights to. The model animates whatever you upload, so the rights question starts with you.
  • People in your photo must agree to being animated; a photo of a child may only come from their parent or guardian. No public figures.
  • No sexual, suggestive or violent content. Prompts are screened, the video model applies its own safety filters, and uploads must follow our content policy.
  • Renders use credits from a pack or plan, like every model here; there is no free tier.
  • PictureToVideo runs Kling 2.1 via API as an independent site — not affiliated with Kuaishou or Kling AI.
FAQ

Kling 2.1 AI Video Generator FAQ

Still curious? Email support@picturetovideo.org — a human replies within a day.

01When did Kling 2.1 come out?
It arrived in May 2025, a few weeks after Kling 2.0 Master. It split the generation into Standard (720p) and Pro (1080p) image-to-video tiers plus a premium Master tier, and it was the newest budget option until the Turbo generation shipped in September 2025.
02How is Kling 2.1 Master different from Standard and Pro?
Standard and Pro are the affordable image-to-video tiers at 720p and 1080p. Master is the premium 1080p tier that also handles text to video. PictureToVideo offers Standard and Pro only: Master costs more per second than Kling 3.0 at 1080p, so we point Master fans to 3.0 instead.
03Why is Kling 2.1 labelled Beta on PictureToVideo?
It is a legacy model: Kling has moved on to 2.5 Turbo, 2.6 and 3.0, and access to older versions can be interrupted or withdrawn with little notice. Until it has a long, stable track record here we call it Beta. Expect the occasional “temporarily unavailable” message; our Draft tier is the closest stable alternative.
04What happens if the model is unavailable when I press Generate?
No credits are kept: the generator says the Classic tier (this model) is temporarily unavailable and suggests Draft (Kling 2.5 Turbo). Switching is your choice: we never render on another model and call it 2.1. A result labelled Classic always ran on 2.1, so you know what you paid for.
05Can Kling 2.1 make a video from text only?
Not here. The Standard and Pro tiers we run need a start image; text-only prompts on the 2.1 generation required the Master tier. For text to video at a low price, use Kling 2.5 Turbo at 1080p or Kling 2.6, both of which accept a prompt with no image.
06Is Kling 2.1 or 2.5 Turbo the better budget pick?
Version 2.1 is cheaper per second (4 credits at 720p vs 6 for 2.5 Turbo), but Turbo is newer, out of beta, renders at 1080p and adds text to video. Choose 2.1 for bulk tests from photos when price matters most; choose Turbo when reliability matters more.
07Is PictureToVideo connected to Kling AI or Kuaishou?
No. PictureToVideo is an independent, unofficial service. We access this model, newer Kling versions and other models such as Veo 3.1 and Wan 2.5 via API and sell our own credits; Kuaishou and Kling AI do not endorse us. If you want the official app, go to kling.ai — this site is for people who prefer paying per second.
